Romanian film festival featuring Iran’s ‘Sheeple’

The 18th Transilvania Int'l Film Festival in Romania is screening Iranian feature ‘Sheeple’.

The 18th edition of the Transilvania International Film Festival (TIFF), currently underway in Romania, has set to screen Iranian feature ‘Sheeple’.

According to the TIFF website, ‘Sheeple’ is taking part at the Romanian event’s noncompetitive section, 'No Limit', which is “dedicated to features that are provocative, controversial, experimental, transgressive, and innovating in both form and content.”

The festival will display the acclaimed Iranian title on June 5.

Directed by Houman Seyyedi, ‘Sheeple’ is about Shahin, a loud-mouthed fellow adopted years ago, who tries to establish his authority in a family run by the iron hand of his drug lord brother.

“Two brothers are running and making Crystal meth in a hidden laboratory in middle of nowhere of an urban jungle and they do care for the honor of their neighborhood. All of a sudden, a mobile footage on their sister is spreading everywhere and this causes some strange incidents,” a synopsis for the flick reads.

The film won four Crystal Simorgh awards at the 36th Fajr Film Festival in Iran and six other awards in six categories, including best film and best director, at the 12th Celebration of Iranian Cinema Critics and Screenwriters.

‘Sheeple’ also brought Navid Mohammadzadeh the best actor award at the 2018 edition of the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in Estonia.

The Transilvania International Film Festival is “the first and the largest international feature film festival in Romania”, the TIFF’s website reads.

The 18th edition of the festival has begun on May 31, 2019 and is set to last until June 9.
